sWARM
sWARM is an art installation and climate communication project co-created with over 500 middle school students of the Duggan Academy in Springfield, MA, to bring heightened awareness of the impacts of urban heat island due to climate change.
The installation consists of a swarm of color-changing origami butterflies that serve as a visual thermometer inside the Springfield Science Museum. The butterflies will indicate when the building is warming up, as well as reveal messages related to mitigation of heat impacts and resources to increase energy efficiency in buildings.
The project, designed in collaboration with Cooler Communities, aims to connect students, their families, and larger community, to resources related to energy efficiency and mitigation of health impacts due to extreme heat.
